Make Art With Heart

This year at the annual award ceremony there will be a new art award given to 2 students from each grade. In order to receive this award a student must:
Always try their best,
Make good choices,
Be kind and helpful to others,
and of course
Make art with heart.

At the beginning of the year each student was given a heart shaped crayon to remind them to always make art with heart.

Chinese New Year

Getting the room ready for Chinese New Year. I spent the weekend in Philadelphia and visited one of my favorite places, China Town. I picked up some gems for the room. 2013 is the year of the snake and falls on February 10th this year.

2nd grade is working on recycled sculptures while learning about Chinese New Year and texture. Here they are in progress.

This is my example. Finished student work coming soon.

Square 1 Art Fundraiser!!

In case you've been wondering about our art fundraiser...here's some information. :)

We've been working really hard on all of our projects to meet the shipping deadline! The artwork will very shortly be shipped to Square 1 Art. Once there the artwork is scanned and ready to be applied to a variety of products!

Here is a brief timeline of when you can expect things to happen.
2.21 - Art work gets shipped to Square 1
3.12 - I should receive custom catalogs which will be distributed to each student and include ordering  information
3.26 - Deadline for all orders (online ordering is preferred)
4.22 - Products arrive at TG!! They will also get distributed this day and through out that week.

Just in time for Mother's Day! Think birthday gifts too. Custom gifts are always the best. You can look at products available for purchase by clicking the link below.

Workings of the Art Room

The colored blocks correspond with the table colors in my room. Each week they are moved around so one table doesn't have to do the same task every class.

This is our Catch up Board...students can look here to see if there is a project that they need to finish. This helps to keep them organized and on task. I saw that "catch" up bottle on a pinterst post and out of that I painted my own and designed the rest.

I use my poster holder to store student work. Each table has their own colored folder and each class is grouped together and stored by day of the week.

I have an art center for when students have some extra time towards the end of class. Here they can use molding clay to build, work on mazes, and practice drawing with the drawing books as guides.

They may also sit on the carpet and read an art book.

This is my way to monitor noise levels in the art room. Before the first smiley comes down I give one warning. Then if it is still too noisy I'll remove one smiley and it's silent art for two minutes. If the first two get taken down then it's silent art for the rest of class.
