Students were learning about the Diwali celebration in there classrooms. During this time each class had their own celebrations and we made the diyas (light) in art to help with the celebration. It was also nice to tie in what they were learning in their classrooms with art.
We started by talking about Diwali and what it looks like in India. I put a presentation together so students could have a visual reference as well as our discussion.
I had various tools to carve from as well as plastic sheets that could be pressed into the clay. There was an in class demo and a reminder sheet on each table with the steps for creating a pinch pot diya.
