Warm/Cool Color Birch Trees

Sticking with watercolor for our next project, students practiced making gradient washes. We looked at and discussed warm and cool colors and what/ways they are used. After students created a gradient wash using warm or cool colors. They first practiced on a small piece of paper making a gradient wash with one color, two colors and three colors (which is what they did on their large paper). Then they moved onto their large paper creating the gradient. Next came the birch trees and once everything dried students cut out and assembled the trees. Students were asked to play around with their arrangement till they got one they liked. Finally, with the practice paper they had to cut out at least 15 leaves and arrange them in their composition.

Art vocab: warm colors, cool colors, gradient wash
